JOHN & ELIZABETH’S STORY

We’re really pleased that we made the move, even if it took a little bit of time.

“Our daughter Helen found this place, she knew I couldn’t cope at home, I was quite sick and had to be in the city for specialist appointments all the time. I must admit, I’d never heard of assisted living before. Stepping into the communal dining room for the first time, I remember thinking, “I’m not going there!” But I realise now, I needed to be here and despite my initial resistance we’ve really settled in, quite well.

We’re still independent and everything is easy and convenient. You can walk up the street to the doctor’s surgery, the pharmacy, and there’s a florist up there too, so we don’t have to go very far for the things we need.

John’s a lot more active than I am, he still drives, and he loves watching the Swans play, and going to see our grandson play cricket on the weekend. He went to college next door and knew the area well. Now he enjoys going for walks remembering the old times. I still go to medical appointments in the city and the staff here help me a lot. They are lovely people and will do anything that you ask. We’re really pleased that we made the move, even if it took a little bit of time.

Everything is here that we need. The care here is exceptional and everyone, even down to the kitchen staff, all know you by name. They make a real effort to make you feel that you’re important to them. It’s a massive change at our age that takes a while to get used to. But it’s so easy. Simple things that make life just that much easier.

I love to cook but I haven’t used the oven once since I moved in!

Our children and grandchildren all enjoy visiting and I am grateful we are so close to family. That has been one of the best factors, that they can pop in, or we can all go out for dinner together. We generally sit upstairs after dinner at nighttime and look out at the beautiful view. We’ve been married 58 years, and this is ideal for us at this stage of our lives.”
